Welcome to the second issue of engage magazine

The engage team has been elated and touched by the immense feedback and support we have received following our first issue and first networking event . I would like to take this opportunity to thank all well – wishers and to assure you that we will continue to play a part in raising awareness of procurement initiatives for minority – owned businesses in this country .

In this issue we have a special focus on Black , Asian and Minority Ethnic ( BAME ) women , as business – owners and as women in the workplace . We hope you will find their perseverance , their confidence in their abilities and willingness to work hard , both inspirational and informative .

In our search to uncover the progress being made on supplier diversity in the UK , we have stumbled across several organisations and many initiatives , all of whom are committed to the diversity agenda . We share some of these with you , in this publication .

What has become evident is the need to unravel the mystery of public and private sector procurement policies to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to tender for larger contracts . We recognise that there are some real issues around sustainability , but this is where the UK ’ s larger organisations can lend their advice on how to improve long – term capacity building . The corporate sector can do more and we want hear from you .
We intend to keep you up to date with developments and continue to profile those organisations , both large and small , who are taking a lead in ensuring diversity amongst its suppliers .
We look forward to receiving your comments and contributions .
