EHS 2018 TOP SCHOLARS
VALEDICTORIAN- AURELIE BARRY
As Aurelie prepared to complete her senior year at
EHS, she took a few minutes from her busy schedule
for an interview.
QUESTION- What has helped you to be such a
successful student?
ANSWER- Time management has been so important.
Knowing what you’re getting into ahead of time, so you
have an idea of how much time will be needed to
complete the task is helpful.
QUESTION- What would you like for us to know
about you?
ANSWER- I’m a dancer year-round at Riley’s. I’ve
also played soccer for four years. These activities are
relaxing and decompressing for me.
QUESTION- What’s next for you after graduation?
ANSWER- I’m looking forward to moving to Boston
and attending Emmanuel College. Because Boston is a
college town, it can inspire me and other young people.
I’m excited about being in that environment.
QUESTION- What will you miss about EHS?
ANSWER- I’ll miss the relationships. Coming from a
small Catholic School, I wasn’t sure what to expect at
EHS with so many students. Yet, I developed a strong
bond with friends who keep me sane. I’ll miss the
teachers because I’ve also formed a bond with them.
When things have been trying, they have pulled out the
chocolate which made things better. I enjoy working,
and the academic challenges I’ve faced here have
prepared me for college.
QUESTION- Do you have any final or parting thoughts
hhh
for us?
ANSWER- I want to say thanks to everyone for a
wonderful experience. My peers and teachers have
helped me to learn to take charge and be a leader in
school and in the world. I have really enjoyed my time
at EHS!
SALUTATORIAN- JASON CHEN
QUESTION- What would you like to share about
your Enfield Public Schools experience?
ANSWER- I attended Fermi and then transitioned to
EHS. It was a smooth transition, and everyone was
welcoming. I’ve been in Enfield for grades K-12
and the schools have lived up to the reputation- very
diverse with accepting, kind, helpful, and warm-
hearted people.
QUESTION- What have been your extra-curricular
activities?
ANSWER- I played volleyball for two years and was
involved in the chess club and board games club.
When I’m not at school I volunteer at the Food
Shelf. I also help my parents. They own the Great
Wall Chinese Food Restaurant here in Enfield.
QUESTION- Has school always been easy for you?
ANSWER- No. Initially I worked hard because I
had to learn English when I started kindergarten.
Now school is easier. I’ve taken three years of
French classes. I also taught myself Japanese,
Korean, and Cantonese.
QUESTION- What college will you attend, and have
you decided on a major?
ANSWER- I’m going to WPI (Worchester
Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts) to major in
chemical engineering and minor in biology.
Thanks to Jason for allowing everyone to learn a
little bit about him.
