STEM Aviation Course

STEM Aviation Course and Simulated Training taught by the lead commercial pilot and executive director of Giving Kids Wings Flight Academy. This five week summer course was essentially taught onsite at Leuzinger High School during the instructional phase and at Da Vinci Academy during the simulation phase. Thereafter, three UBMS participants received their first private flight lessons at reduced costs to UBMS parents, with photographs and several videos memorializing this pioneering UBMS experience

STEM Reproductive Endocrinology Module taught by a lab scientist at the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Education. This three hour summer research-based course was taught onsite at San Diego Zoo research laboratory and consisted of testing animal specimens for pregnancy, progesterone, and testosterone levels. Moreover, participants also enjoyed an informative lecture comparing the reproductive system in humans versus animals. Finally, participants presented their lab test results via presentations, a graphing exercise and an interactive quiz. Once again, many photographs beautifully illustrate this unique UBMS experience.
