Sleepwalker's brain has difficulty getting into full alertness when they wake up for some reason while they are in deep sleep. Aim: The purpose of this retrospective study is to highlight some important information about the sleepwalking. Review Methods: Extensive review of the recent literature was conducted in electronic database Medline and via the link of the Greek Association of Academic Libraries (HEAL- Link), using the following key words: sleep, sleeping disorders, sleepwalker and sleepwalking. Results: Sleepwalking usually subsides in adolescence but rarely can recur in periods of severe anxiety, after drinking alcohol and after using suppressive drugs or when changing the individual environment. If a sleepwalker wakes up while he is in deep sleep, he can start moving without having to record it in his memory. A sleepwalker can move, talk, answer questions and even drive but when they wake up they remember completely nothing. Their behavior is mechanical and may be aggressive if one tries to wake them up. Thus do not wake up a sleepwalker, direct him/her with gentle moves to return to his room Conclusions: Sleepwalker not to drink too much alcohol in the evening, not to eat heavy food and to inform other people especially when changing environment. Keywords: Sleep, Sleeping Disorders, Sleepwalker, Sleepwalking Congress Topics: Connecting, Sharing and Learning in Nursing 71 |
