Analysis and Discussion: The structural reform of the health system in the country that began in 2005 and ended in 2007 affected 9578 nurses who at that time worked in the health sector. From the total number of nurses employed in primary health care 2806 nurses were directly involved in the reform process in that part of the health system. Influenced of the reforms many nurses were left to work with doctors in private health services, without opportunity to share in the founding capital of the transformed private healthcare institutions. The rest of the nurses continued to work in public health institutions as part of primary health care and in health centers in the departments of preventive and child care, school medicine, polyvalent patronage, preventive dental care, occupational medicine, emergency care and home treatment and department to combat tuberculosis. Conclusion: The reforms of the health system had negative impact on the status of nurses in primary health care. The majority of nurses left to work with doctors who are carriers of the activity in the private sector, and nurses remained part of the team set a minimum salary for health workers. It is necessary to improve the status of nurses and defining their main activity like a nursing care by adopting the Law on Nursing.
