The senior nurse plays an important role in building a nursing team. The purpose of this study is to establish the skills of senior nurses to cope with conflicts that arise in the nursing practice. A survey of 120 senior nurses from 5 university hospitals in Sofia, Bulgaria, was planned and conducted. Respondents say that they are well informed about conflicts, but they all have difficulties when they need to intervene to resolve the conflict. The results show that senior nurses need training and competence development to implement effective methods and approaches in case of conflicting situations. The clarification of the conflict and its effective solution is a particularly important and indispensable condition for improving the psychological climate and achieving better performance in the work.
