THE MEDIATING ROLE OF AUTONOMY IN THE EFFECT OF INNOVATION CLIMATE AND SUPERVISOR SUPPORTIVENESS ON INNOVATIVE BEHAVIOR
Objective : The aim of this correlational study is to examine the mediation of autonomy in the effect of organizational innovation climate and supervisor supportiveness on innovative behaviors of nurses . Methods : The sample of the study consisted of 332 nurses who were determined among nurses , working in two public university hospitals by using purposeful convenience sampling method . The data of the study were collected by using a Participant Information Form , Climate of Innovation Scale , Supervisor Supportiveness Scale , Dempster Practice Behavior Scale and Innovative Behavior Scale between February and May 2015 . Results : It was determined that the linear regression model examining the mediation of the score of autonomy was statistically significant and the score of autonomy explained 31.9 % of the variance of the score of innovative behavior . In the model , it was observed that the effects of the scores of supervisor supportiveness and innovation climate were statistically insignificant , whereas the effect of score of autonomy was statistically significant . When the significance of the mediation was examined by using Sobel test ; it was determined that the effect of the mediation was significant for the scores of both innovation climate and supervisor supportiveness . Conclusion : In this study , it was determined that innovation climate and supervisor supportiveness positively affected innovative behavior and autonomy had a full mediation in this relationship . This result attracts attention to the necessity for manager nurses , who desire to develop innovative behaviors of nurses , to support their autonomous behaviors .
