Johanna Feuchtinger Dr. University of Freiburg, Medical Center Hugstetter Str. 49, 79106 Freiburg DE [email protected] NURSES WITH A BACHELOR-DEGREE IN DIRECT PATIENT CARE: MEETING THE NEW CHALLENGE IN THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL FREIBURG, GERMANY Nursing education in Germany is by national law a three-year vocational training. In the last ten years Universities offer more and more programmes to prepare nurses in direct patient care with a Bachelor-degree. The Deutsche Wissenschaftsrat (2012; https://www.wissenschaftsrat.de/download/archiv/2411-12_Executive- Summary.pdf, p.16) recommends between 10 and 20% of each cohort of students in the nursing and therapeutic professions and in midwifery to receive training at higher education level. At the University Hospital Freiburg (UHF), Germany, 110 nurses with a Bachelor-degree are employed (April 2017), working in direct patient care. This is 4.5% of all nurses, the number is increasing. Bachelor-Nurses are trained as care managers for patients/families with complex situations and needs, they are involved in practice development projects, and they are responsible for the quality of care in the nursing team together with the nurse manager and the practice instructor. In a survey in April 2017 at the UHF, Bachelor-Nurses were asked about their tasks in daily practice related to their Bachelor-degree, their general satisfaction, the interprofessional experience, and their recommendation for future developments at the UHF. The results will be presented at the ENDA- Congress. Keywords: Bachelor, Nursing, Training Congress Topics: Globalization in Nursing: Education, Migration, Workforce 9 |
