Alternatively, when using a pre-made form, I first consider if it needs to be fortified with an internal wire armature, or if encaustic alone will be enough for it to hold its lasting shape. The size of the object as well as the type and weight of the cloth help determine if internal wire is needed. Once these considerations are made, I can move forward with final tests and ultimately finished forms. One of my largest works using this method is my installation at Fulton Crossing Gallery in Fulton, CA, Laundry, where I incorporated 12 pieces of “clothing” strung across a clothesline.
