Even after many years of working with books and wax, I find I am constantly awed by the
beauty of combining these two materials. In my most recent series, Circulation, I’m getting
much joy out of the magic moment when I pour hot wax over the pages I’ve been coiling
for months — the color of each type of paper becoming more saturated and potent, the
piece finally reveals itself. And another wonderful quality of wax: I can polish it, so the
surface of the piece can really shine if planed and buffed. Still discovering new
approaches to working with wax, I must admit I’m my own kind of encaustic artist.
