Encaustic Arts Magazine WINTER 2017 - Page 26

Big Sky, oil, cold wax on birch panel, 12 x 60 x 3 inches, 2016 My work remains to this day abstract minimalist but based on landscape inspirations either viewed by myself or from photographs taken by a friend. Inspiration is all around me and seldom do I have any ‘creative blocks’. Usually, I have too many ideas floating in my mind and focusing or channeling these ideas becomes difficult. So much of my inspiration comes from my travels. The cliffs and black sand beaches in New Zealand, the green of Ireland, the desert beauty of the Southwest, French and Italian architecture, tile patterns in Portugal, textures in Spain and of course all the beauty surrounding my homes. I also enjoy hiking in the forests, horseback riding through the fields and the sunsets over the water at my Door County studio. I strive to find stillness and quiet in both my Michigan and Door County properties. Art is everywhere!
