Encaustic Arts Magazine WINTER 2017 - Page 151

BIO Flamingo Looking Glass, walnut, ash, rosewood, zebra wood, mirror Training as an artist has been largely limited to evening and weekend workshops. To a large degree, I am an outsider with regard to formal art training. The woodworking background was firmly entrenched within me during high school. This resulted in me apprenticing as a wood pattern maker (maker of wooden patterns for sand-casting iron and other metals, ie engine blocks) before graduating and off to college for business and engineering. Over the years I have consistently participate in seminars and workshops, such as the DeMazia Foundation in Philadelphia, classes at University of the Arts, and Encaustics Workshop in MA, etc. Over the last several years, I have been fortunate enough to be given opportunities to show in galleries, shows and other venues. These included solo shows at Robeson Galleries (Penn State Univ.) State College PA, Philadelphia Welcome (visitors) Center, Philadelphia PA, Derek’s, Manyunk PA, Roxborough-Manayunk Gallery, Philadelphia, PA, ABstract EXpressions Gallery, Mount Holly, NJ. Group shows have included: Garrison Art Center, Garrison, NY, Banana Factory, Bethlehem, PA, JAM Gallery, Malvern, PA, The Plastic Club, Philadelphia, PA, Sketch Club, Philadelphia, PA, Rowan Gallery (Burlington College), Mount Holley, NJ, Blank Canvas, New Hope, PA, Accent Gallery, Ocean City, NJ. In addition to individual pieces being acquired for private collections, my pieces are represented in the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and the Encaustic Museum of Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico. www.ArtByVesco.com JoeVesco@Yahoo.com
