Kaia, encaustic on wood panel with transfer, white wood frame, 9.5 x 9.5 inches, 2015 DISCOVERING ENCAUSTICS My love affair with encaustics began with two little paintings I spied at DeCordova Museum, photos transferred onto an encaustic background. The glowing, translucent surface and luminous, subtle colors intrigued me. These two little paintings seemed to shine from within. I immediately signed up for a one day course in encaustic painting. I was hooked when I found that you did not need to clean your brushes! I think that every artist has paintings that represent an eureka moment in their journey. My journey with encaustics can be traced to these benchmark paintings.
