B
rian Colón went to elementary school in
Albuquerque and was raised in Los Lunas &
Bosque Farms, New Mexico and received his
Bachelor’s Degree from New Mexico State Uni-
versity (NMSU)—where he was Vice President
of the Student Body--and went on to receive his
law degree from the University of New Mexico
(UNM) School of Law and serve as Graduate
& Professional Student Body President. Colón
has been named Outstanding Young Lawyer of
the Year, one of New Mexico’s Forty Under 40
Power Brokers and a “force of nature in fund-
raising.” Brian is immediate-past President of
the Spanish Colonial Arts Society (Spanish
Market & Museum) and Past President of the
UNM Alumni Association and Trustee of the
Albuquerque Community Foundation (ap-
prox. $67M). He also co-founded and served
on both the KiMo Theater Foundation, Pope-
joy Hall’s Board of Directors and the NMHBA/
UNM Law Camp while serving on the boards
of the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association
(NMHBA), Albuquerque Community Foun-
dation (ACF) Future Fund, NMSU Crimson
Central New Mexico Alumni Association, NM
Police Athletic League (PAL), United Way of
Central New Mexico Center for Nonprofit Ex-
cellence (CNPE) and New Mexico College Ac-
cess Network.
After serving extensively in Democratic Party
of New Mexico leadership from local official to
State Chairman and 2008 Democratic Na-
tional Convention State Delegation Chair,
Colón ran for Lieutenant Governor where
he won a heavily competitive 5-way state
primary election by a 5% margin.
Brian has extensive experience in working
with local, state and federal elected offi-
cials in order to assist individuals and or-
ganizations with their various goals. But
most importantly, Mr. Colón is passionate
about mentoring young people and leaders
in order to strengthen our community, our
state and the nation. But most important-
ly, Mr. Colón is passionate about mentor-
ing young people and leaders in order to
strengthen our community, our state and
the nation.
It’s apparent that Brian has long been a
man of the community in Albuquerque.
He and his wife, Maria Aleli Colón, have
been married for more than 20 years and
have been blessed with one son, Rafael Ma-
rio Colón, who is a proud graduate of Al-
buquerque High School. Colón often says
he was a “wandering generality” until he
met Aleli, who became the driving force
behind his personal and professional suc-
cess.
