? In 2012, the United States alone sent more than 65% of its outsourced legal work to India, the Global Outsourcing Association of Lawyers said.

? There were around 40 players in the industry in 2005 and 100 in 2007. In 2009, there were more than 140 service providers in India in the legal services offshoring segment, offering services ranging from legal transcription to complex contractual analysis and patent related services, ValueNotes Research said in a report.
? With the onset of the global financial crisis in 2008 and until 2010, the LPO business in India reported a flat growth in billing rates and manpower, as well as a 20% drop in the number of service providers, ValueNotes said. ? After 2010, the sector saw a wave of consolidation as well as the emergence of more and larger law firms and corporates. The share of offshoring by large corporates and law firms also increased. ? Patent filing is treated separately from LPO and is known as Patent Process Outsourcing (PPO). As of end-2011, more than 900 Indian professionals were providing patent related services for an approximate fee of USD 2,500, against USD 8,000-USD 12,000 charged by U.S. firms, GOAL said. ? Studies by U.S. research firm Forester have found that legal process outsourcing can bring in USD 4bn and 79,000 jobs to India over the next 10 years and boost the KPO sector in the country.
