4. HOW IS MY HANDICAP INDEX CALCULATED?

- The EGF Handicap Index is based on the USGA (United States Golf Association) system.

- It is calculated based on your last twenty (20) rounds played and entered into the EGF system (e.g. through the clubhouse terminal).

- The system will automatically select your ten (10) best rounds out of the last twenty (20) rounds and the average result of these ten (10) best rounds will determine your Handicap Index.

- Therefore, the EGF Handicap reflects your potential and not your average score. In other words, it is assumed to be much more likely that you will not play to your handicap (75:25 ratio). Your handicap assumes that you will play to that handicap only once in four (4) rounds at best. For comparison, the alternative handicap system used in the UK and other parts of the World expects that you will play to your handicap only once in six (6) rounds.

5. DO TOURNAMENTS ROUNDS COUNT IN THE SAME WAY AS PRIVATE GENERAL PLAY ROUNDS?

- Yes. The only difference is that your score from a tournament round will immediately adjust your Handicap Index once entered into the system.

- If you enter the result of a private round (general play), the Handicap Index will be updated only at the end of the month.

- When you enter a score in, the system will show your actual current Handicap Index and your projected Handicap Index. The latter is the one that becomes effective at the end of the month, when the results of the entered general play rounds are included in the calculation.

- When a player becomes a Category 1 player (Index 5.4 and below) the handicap system maintains handicaps from Tournament rounds only. However Handicap administrators are able to view General play rounds and make an adjustment at the end of each month without Tournament round history.
