Coaches Corner - Ruling & Etiquette

Welcome to the coaches corner. Each month we will inform members of a golfing rule or different tips that is generated by EGF Coach, Jason Froggatt. We hope that this will help with your game and improve your general knowledge of golf. Enjoy!

Rules Question sent into the EGF - " We were recently playing in extremely windy conditions, one of our playing partners was ready to play on the putting green and the wind blew the ball moving it several feet away from where it originally came to rest. We were all unsure and played it from where it stopped - was this correct to do?

Under Rule 18-2b. Ball Moving After Address - Yes the correct decision was made. A new Exception is added which "exonerates" the player if his ball moves after it has been addressed when it's known or virtually certain that he did not cause the ball to move. No penalty and the ball is played from it's new position.

•Be ready to play your next shot, check your yardage, pick your club, a prepare without distracting other players in your group

•Soon as all the players finish the hole, mark your score card on the next tee or on route to the tee

•Play a provisional ball if your ball may be lost outside a hazard or out of bounds

A golfers burden - Slow Play - frustrations can run high on a golf course without that of "slow play" here's a few ways to help you keep up with play!
