The Tobias Brothers Leave Their Mark in Al Ain

(Al Ain, UAE) - On June 20-21, 2014 the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club (AESGC) hosted the first ever Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Summer Pairs Open, sponsored by Rotana Hotels and Resorts. 33 teams took to the course for this two-day event. With day one played as a Better Ball Stableford and day two played as an Individual Pairs Stableford, the teams had to put together two solid rounds to find themselves in the running for prizes. This event was the first of three events that the EGF will be organizing throughout the summer.

Offering more than a typical golf club experience, Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club is located in the Oasis City of Al Ain. Playing over 6,800 yards the Championship Course gave the golfers a scenic and challenging excursion. The golf club at AESGC is a social hub and was the perfect venue to kick off the EGF summer events.

After a fantastic weekend of golf, the siblings David and Robert Tobias of Dubai came out at the top of the field with a total of 117 points. 43 points came in the first day of play in the Better Ball Stableford format. Scores of 35 from David and 39 from Robert sealed the victory on day two, in the Individual Pairs Stableford format.

The father and son pair of Sergio De Souza and Sidney De Souza of Dubai had a tremendous day two to finish in second place. On day two they scored 36 and 38 points to follow the 41 points that was posted on day one for a total of 115 points.

The final three prizewinners were all tied on 112 points. Taking third place on the count back was the team of Chris Grimshaw of Al Ain, and Stuart Kent. They scored 40 points on day one and followed that with 29 and 43 points on day two. A special mention to Stuart who scored 43 off his two handicap where he was five-under par for his final round.

In fourth place was the pair of Stephen Thornton and Daniel Whittaker of Abu Dhabi who also scored 112 points. The 112 points was comprised of 41 on day one, followed by 38 and 33 on day two.

Eric Smith and Dane Sandford Jr. of Al Ain completed the prizewinners. After posting 41 points in day one they went on to shoot 37 and 34 points on day two, to seal the fifth spot.
