Go Dawgs !

Talkin ’ Trash with Marty Jones and Kurt Heine

Go Jackets !

It ’ s been 10 days since the end of the season and I have truly struggled to write this column . I could not be more happy for and proud of our team . This is a special bunch led by a group of seniors that made me proud to wear the red and black .

From the start , I thought this group had a chance to be special . I predicted the SEC east back in August . But all this ? Not in my wildest dreams did I see this wild ride coming . This was a special season . I hope you gave your heart to this team early like I did and enjoyed the emotional roller coaster this season was . Those young men played with a passion and energy that I truly loved . You could see the love and support they had for each other . They all won and lost as a group . Truly memories were made for a lifetime , both on the field and for us UGA fans .
Speaking of which , hearing the ‘ UGA ’ chat in South Bend , Nashville , Jax , the flats , the Benz , Pasadena , and the Benz again was spine tingly . Also , making new friends in South Bend and Pasadena and seeing old friends in Nashville and Jax
and then sharing the trips to the Benz with more friends and sharing my passion for UGA was very rewarding along the way .
Now back to the beginning , I have struggled with this column for one simple reason , I am left wanting . I have said all the right things since the end . Overachieved against expectations . We all would have taken the season in August , etc . I have not believed it anytime I said it .
What I really wanted to say was , ( To paraphrase Dr . King .) I have been to the Mountain Top and did not get to stay , and I am pissed off . GATA

Ouch ! Really ? You really let that Alabama guy 20 yards behind you in for the winning catch ? They had BAMA down with a hobnail boot on their throats , and then … Oh well . GA did get there , and I suppose there ’ s always next year .

The Jacket ’ s basketball team has been ballin ’ lately . They ’ re 4-1 in the conference with nice wins against # 25 Miami and Notre Dame . The schedule gets tougher now , especially with 8 freshmen on the young squad . # 2 Virginia is coming to Atlanta on the 18th and that one should be a thriller . We can ’ t get too high on the boys though as the lack of experience will probably sneak up on them . Coming up at # 15 North Carolina , home vs . # 20 Clemson , at FSU , home with Syracuse , then at BC and Louisville . Tough road but these Jackets are resilient ! There ’ s a good chance at winning at least half of them . A winning record in the regular season and a good showing in the ACC tournament could get them into the dance . We ’ ll see how it pans out .
Lady Jackets ? Not so good . They ’ re 12-7 overall but 1-5 in the conference . They did hold their own against # 3 Louisville but couldn ’ t close the deal with a 3 point loss . Nuts ! They still have a real shot at this , though . The schedule isn ’ t real favorable , but when they pick it up a couple of notches they could be in really good shape when conference tourney time comes .

FOR THE LOVE OF CHOCOLATE AND WINE

Love is in the air ! The month of February is considered by many as the month of love . The day of romance , which we call Valentine ’ s Day is named in honor of a Christian martyr . Valentine ’ s Day dates back to the 5th century , but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia .

Although love is celebrated on February 14th , every day is an opportunity to celebrate your special love . I think everyone would agree that a great way to celebrate love is with chocolate and wine .
Chocolate and wine are the perfect couple . They love each other . They compliment each other . They bring out the best in each other . So , with all of the chocolate and wine options out there , what pairs best ? Dark or bittersweet chocolates pair well with Cabernet
Sauvignon , Merlot , Grenache , Malbec , and Sherry . Milk chocolates pair well with Pinot Noir , Merlot , Sherry , Sauternes , and Madeira . White chocolates pair well with Gewurztraminer , Sherry and Moscato d ’ Asti .
If you decide to serve Champagne or Sparkling Wine with your chocolates , choose one with demisec or doux on the label , which is an indication of a sweeter sparkling . Chocolate covered strawberries pair

well with a Rose Champagne or Sparkling Wine . Not many women can resist some chocolate covered strawberries . A helpful tidbit for chilling your Sparkling Wine or Champagne is to add some frozen grapes to your glass .
Eating chocolate and drinking wine is very romantic and a beautiful way to show love to that special person in your life . Get out the good glasses and plan an enjoyable chocolate and wine experience with the one you love . Every bottle of wine has a story so why not create your own perfect love story with some wine and chocolate ?

A SERVING OF LOVE

Watching people in restaurants is inform-ative .

Being a server , especially , gives you a feel for what loving people are like and what unhappy people are like . If a party comes in and orders sweet tea and sits there on their phones until the meal is over , they usually are not pleasant people . They will find more things wrong with their service . They will usually leave a bad tip for their server . Rarely does
this happen when your guests order alcoholic drinks Even if they start off quiet , they quickly progress into vibrant conversation . They won ’ t complain about how long their food is taking . They will interact with other patrons , making new friends . They will smile when they leave , tipping well . Ask anyone you know who serves at a restaurant . Tables get more upset about an empty coke glass than an empty beer glass . Think about that statement very carefully . People who drink are more loving and not just of those around them but of everything . Ask a server . Ask them if they ’ d rather have a $ 100 table of non-drinkers or a $ 75 table of drinkers . More importantly , ask them who is more loving : drinkers or non-drinkers . I just don ’ t want the non-drinkers thinking they are beating the drinkers in anything besides unhappiness and liver-health . Servers see hundreds of people per week and they see right through you , tea-drinkers .
