Of the 40 countries represented below, seven out of the top 10 are sub-Saharan African, while not a single European country— not counting Turkey—appears in the first half of the list. China features as the country where religion matters least in daily life. The study findings also reveal a correlation between religion and poverty, with religion apparently more important to residents of poorer countries.
