This Czech classic comedy with a bit of tragedy was nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Film . It won the Special Jury Award in Montreal World Film Festival .
In January 2007 it was chosen by 22 % Czechs as the best Czech comedy in history .
The plot : Otík , the main character , a mentally retarded young man , lives in a little village . The sweet-tempered Otík works as an assistant truck driver with Mr . Pávek , his older colleague and practical-minded neighbor . Pávek ' s family takes care of Otík , whose parents are dead . the film is about solidarity , friendship , love
There various characters , real humans with every-day problems and their substories . It is full of funny situations and also irony , but the humour is not cheap , it is intelligent and wise . Several quotes and scenes from the film are famous .
This pleasant film is not ageing , although it was filmed in communistic Czechoslovakia , it is still fun to watch . It has got great Czech actors , kind humour , beautiful music , kind heart in the centre of the stories . part of the film with
