Buxs banter I know it is beginning to sound repetitive, but I was again hampered by selection problems for our game against Plymouth Parkway last Saturday. It has been a common cause of frustration for me during the season and it seems to be an obstacle that just won’t go away. At the time of writing these notes I am not even sure what my side is going to be tonight because, although I will have some players back, I have also lost some again. We have used more than 40 players during the season and the bottom line is we don’t financially reward our players enough expenses-wise and as a result they can’t afford to have time off work or to reward someone to cover their shifts. Sides like Plymouth Parkway – who have a decent budget – do, and they turned up last Saturday with a squad of 18 players. I could only field one substitute. One pleasing aspect was the display of 18-year-old Scott Townsend – another of our talented youngsters. He took a little while to get accustomed to the pace of the game, but I thought he did really well on his debut. Although Parkway scored six goals, the scoreline was not a fair reflection of the play. In the first half they did not really look like would-be champions and we held them for 40 minutes until they scored a superb longrange goal which went in off the woodwork. However, it was the second scrappy goal, with the last but one kick of the half, that really settled it in their favour. Although 5-0 down we kept battling away and deservedly scored twice and saw a couple of other efforts cleared off the line. Enjoy BUXS 33
