We head down to Womanby Street in Cardiff to witness one of New
York’s finest, hardcore veterans Madball. The room fills slowly with
bodies tonight, not that you’d be able to see anyone there’s so much
smoke being pumped out from the back of the room as Guilt Trip
open up. There’s an intensity and visceral power to the bands music on
record however they show no signs of it live. They play a fairly static and
lacklustre set from a genre that usually incites mosh pits and spin kicks
at the drop of a hat. Perhaps the lack of any crowd participation is to
blame for this but the same could be said for just that, there’s not much
to the bands performance. Grove Street Families immediately come out
and ramp up the energy and get the CF10 contingent moving. Tracks
from their brand new mixtape slide into the set with ease as they run
through half hour of modern day hardcore with nods to the old school
that clearly this room of different generations appreciate all the same.
