For Honor ( PC , PS4 , Xbox One , Out Now )
Tales of Berseria
( PC , PS4 , Xbox One , Out now )
As much as For Honor wants to be a calculated , tactical melee fighter , the stellar visuals and deep systems just devolve into a button-mashing mess in the chaos of combat . Its still fun , but a lack of personality , a poor economy that encourages microtransactions and unimaginative game modes leaves this feeling like a missed opportunity . The 1-on-1 combat is sublime , though . 7 / 10
Nights of Azure ( PC , PS4 , Out Now )
The latest in the long-running JRPG series , Beseria takes a darker turn , casting us as revenge-seeking half-demon , Velvet . The visuals and mechanics are a little dated , but the mature storyline and interesting cast keep the game engrossing to the end . 7 / 10
Shantae : Half Genie Hero ( PC , PS4 , Xbox One , Wii U , 3DS , Out now )
A perfectly serviceable , if rather unexciting , action RPG . There ’ s nothing wrong with Nights of Azure , but the combat soon grows old , the visuals are passable , and the love story at its core isn ’ t held together by the weak characters . Unless you have a penchant for impossibly-busted anime girls , there ’ s not much that will hold your interest here . 5 / 10
This gorgeous 2D metroidvania adventure is bursting with charm , and the rock-solid mechanics make controlling the hip-wiggling heroine a joy . In their eagerness to please , the developers might have forgotten to put much of a challenge in there , but that doesn ’ t stop Shantae from being a hugely enjoyable game . 8 / 10
