You Me At Six - Night People BMG | Release Date : 6th January 2017
You Me At Six have always been the underdogs . The trio of albums which made the rock world fall in love with them were all glimmering with stardom , whilst fourth album , Cavalier Youth , saw them experiment with a more grown up sound . It was exciting , something that left you wanting more . Night People , sadly , extinguishes the bright spark that You Me At Six have possessed for so long .
The sound throughout Night People is one of a lack lustre drag . Many of the songs blur into one , particularly the softer numbers such as Take On The World and Give . Where normally Josh Franceschi ’ s smoother than butter vocal would leave you wanting more , it instead falls short . Swear has potential to be an album highlight , but unnecessary synths means it ’ s a grower more than anything else . Even Can ’ t Hold Back is just lacking that bite that You Me At Six are great at giving . Instead , it all just feels a little boring . However , there are moments which restore your faith ; title track , Night People , and Plus One are as true as You Me At Six stay to themselves with this album . They ’ re fun songs and will fit nicely in a setlist of much loved favourites from years past .
Night People feels like a 10 year old child trying on their parents clothes , mimicking everything they aspire to be , but falling short . Like those children , You Me At Six should stick to what their best at , being young and fun and most of all , being the underdogs .
