After 4 albums , 2 ep ’ s and coming up to 10 years of being a band ; Elite caught up with Brendan Murphy , lead singer of Canada ’ s Counterparts on the first stop of their UK tour in Southampton and discussed all things tour .
This is your first UK show of the tour , what were you guys expecting from the uk crowds and what are you looking forward to doing ?
B - The UK is usually like our spot . So every time we ’ re on a tour over here we always look forward to , y ’ know it ’ s like get me on that ferry or the tunnel or whatever it is that gets us to the UK cause this is like for whatever reason you guys like us here so y ’ know we ’ ll always be around . We ’ ll always be in the UK . I love the UK .
So you guys have been around since 2007 . Is there anything fans can expect from you guys as a 10 year anniversary next year ?
B - There ’ s not gunna be like a 10 year anniversary like I don ’ t think there ’ s going to be a ten year tour . I ’ ll probably post like a stock image of a birthday party and say , “ thanks for caring for ten years , I don ’ t know why you do but that ’ s sick .” But yeah we ’ re going to go in the studio to write and record everything in the New Year , so say summer / fall there could be new music . I will say by this time next year our record will have been out for a couple of months . I look forward to that , hopefully it doesn ’ t suck ! We ’ ll try and I ’ ll give it my hardest . I ’ m not worried though so nobody else should be .
So this tour is a co-headliner with Expire and it ’ s the last time they ’ ll e playing in the UK . How does it feel to be part of this tour with that knowledge ?
B - It ’ s awesome ! Those guys are great . We met them for the first time a couple of years ago in Japan and we just like , got to the airport and we were like , “ oh , guess we ’ re chilling with Expire now for a couple days ” and since then we ’ ve been pretty close with them . The fact that this ended up working out and it ’ s their final tour over here is great . After this we all go home for Christmas then we ’ re heading out to Australia then back out to Japan with Expire so it ’ s cool that we got a couple of opportunities to tour with them for the last time and see them off . I love those guys and everyone in that band is awesome .
