Brian Fallon & The Crowes

Support : Dead Swords , Chris Farren

One of the best songwriters of our generation rolls into Oxford tonight , The Gaslight Anthem may be taking a break but Brian Fallon and his band The Crowes have been serenading and breaking hearts for the past year or so .

O2 Academy Oxford 24th November 2016

If you ’ re a massive Gaslight fan and was worried about bad blood between the 4 piece then you ’ d be wrong because tonights opener , Dead Swords , is Alex Rosamilia . He cuts a mysterious figure with his hood up and softly delivered vocals which gets unfortunately drowned out by his bluesy and loose guitar accompaniment . Chit chat amongst members of the audience is still fairly audible even against the drone and distortion on stage .
Chris Farren is up next and sets out to bring a more playful experience to tonights proceedings . Looking dapper and all smiles the former Fake Problems member brings some punk enthusiasm to his set and couples it with Americana charm . Now it ’ s not quite December yet but that doesn ’ t stop Farren from playing some of his witty Christmas songs , luckily they ’ re short , sharp and silly . He occasionally has those in attendance in fits of laughter especially with his ‘ fake applause ’ he uses to thank us with . A wonderful set .
