65daysofstatic - One Time For All Time ( re-issue ) Monotreme Records | Release Date : 18th November 2016
Re-issues are always a bit difficult . Sometimes it ’ s better to leave an album , or any piece of art for that matter , the way it was initially fabricated in order to maintain its value . To conserve the effect it has on people . Reanalysing , re-experiencing and re-visiting it could potentially strip the piece of that specific aura and the personal effect it has on you . This is not the case for Sheffield based quartet 65daysofstatic who are re-releasing their 2005 album “ One Time For All Time ” on vinyl . Giving it a little make-over in order for it to shine again . Time will tell whether or not it was the right decision to dig up this record again . Even after over ten years of existing their energetic mix between post-rock , shoegaze and electronic instruments is able to take you into a world that you have never seen before but seems so strangely familiar from the very start . Their intense mix between vast , atmospheric soundscapes and energetic , sometimes even hectic , glitchy sample-drum staccatos which are glued together by dreamy , playful melodies might not be a very easy listen but it puts a certain feeling of pensiveness into sound that we all have felt before and were unable to describe its intensity to full extend .
As fickle and dangerous re-relases might be sometimes it can be a good decision to take a trip down memory lane for you might find something that you completely forgot was there in the first place . This album will give you something you didn ’ t know you needed .
Bowling For Soup - Drunk Dynasty Brando Records / Que-So Records Release Date : 11th November 2016
Where for some bands at an age of nearly 23 years , writing witty punk songs seems awkward , Bowling For Soup take this in their stride for Drunk Dynasty , their first release in three years , as this album is just brilliant !
Lyrically , Vocalist Jaret Reddick covers many topics including aspects of married life ( Go To Bed Mad ), a message to a former partner ( Shit To Do ) and the disappearance of respect and chivalry ( Don ’ t Be A Dick ) which is all wrapped up with that hilarious tongue-incheek and classic feel good vibe we all know and love Bowling For Soup for , with a definite highlight being the lyric “ You change your mind more than I change underwear ” on track Stop Doing That . A touch of genius ! But , while still having that less serious side present , the band opt for a different sound and embrace their Texan roots on country track Drinkin ’ Beer On A Sunday , which shows the diversity of the band and closes the album nicely , cementing the fact that everything is going to be alright .
Leaving you with a smile on your face and worth every listen , this album is a fantastic addition to Bowling For Soup ’ s discography and is a winner from the get go .
