A Moment Of Zen

I close my eyes and inhale deeply. I have reached the end of the trail. This is my moment of zen. A place to disconnect, yet connect with all that brings me back into balance.

Next to the bench I am resting on are etched names in the ol' log. Those carvings tell the tales of those who wandered to the bluff high above Lake Michigan at the end of the Empire Bluff Trail.

The lookout point stands approximately 400 feet above Lake Michigan. The expansive view to the north is the Village of Empire beach, both South Bar and North Bar Lakes, and most days you can see South Manitou Island. To the south, is the steep slope quickly dropping to the shores of Lake Michigan of Platte Bay.

The hilly terrain of the Empire Bluff Trail is one and a half miles long round trip. Visitors from all over the world come to enjoy beauty and all the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore Park, located in Leelanau County of Michigan, has to offer. Year after year this region of Michigan tops various lists of places to vacation. www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/trailempirebluff.htm
