S ummer . What more could you ever want ? The sun ’ s out , the sea ’ s cool , the sand ’ s inviting . Christmas is here and we ’ ve got some time off work . The kids are on the longest holidays of their year … OK , so it sounded pretty good up until that point !
Still , summer is the pinnacle of the Aussie year , so what better way to celebrate than with our very special summer issue , which explores summer from all manner of angles .
First things first , let ’ s get down to business – and that ’ s the business of backyard renos . We love spending time in the backyard at the best of times , and this summer – probably more than any before – we ’ ll likely be spending a whole lot more time out there as we choose to stay at home rather than make any extravagant plans for summer vacations . So the backyard ’ s got to be tip-top .
We explore the latest trends in the outdoor quarters of the home , and look at the safety aspect of installing that summer must have : the spa pool !
With summer , of course , comes Christmas . And Christmas here in Australia is a very different experience to that of many other countries . So we take a look at some of the ways our friends from overseas celebrate Christmas , and we speak with a couple of electricians who ’ ve now made Australia their home to find out how our hot Christmas compares with their usual celebrations back home .
Backyard cricket is a staple of our summers , as is watching the Test matches unfold . And what about the one-dayers and the Big Bash ! Here at Electrical
Gems , we love nothing more than that sound of yet another six being scored against the Poms , or the crucial wicket being taken against our Kiwi neighbours , so we ’ ve collected some of our favourite cricketing memories and relived them just for you .
