VENT-AXIA IS A FINALIST AT LONDON CONSTRUCTION AWARDS

ECA TO SPONSOR SMART SOLUTIONS AWARDS 2017

SURVEY : JUST ONE IN 16 FIRMS SUPPORT WIRING R EGULATION CHANGES
Just one in 16 electrotechnical businesses ( 6 %) from across the entire industry ‘ absolutely support ’ the proposed 18th Edition update to the Wiring Regulations , according to major new survey findings from the Electrical Contractors ’ Association ( ECA ).
Nearly three in 10 respondents ( 28 %) said that the planned changes were ‘ unfavourable ’ or were ‘ strongly opposed ’ to them . Six in 10 firms ( 61 %) said they ‘ somewhat supported ’ the proposals .
Almost half of firms ( 46 %) said they believed the 18th Edition would ‘ increase business burdens ’, while over seven in 10 respondents ( 71 %) said it would ‘ make the design and install process more complex ’.
ECA head of technical Steve Martin commented , ‘ These ECA survey findings should be seen as a wakeup call to those determined to push ahead with all the proposed changes to the Wiring Regulations . It ’ s vital that the voices of electrotechnical businesses and electricians are heard during this process .
‘ The ECA has a place on the Wiring Regulations committee and we will use this opportunity to ensure any design solutions are practical for installers and contractors . In the meantime , we urge businesses to offer feedback directly to BSI about the proposed changes .’

POWER PLAYERS FINALISTS ANNOUNCED
Four young professionals from across the engineering and electrotechnical industry have been announced as the finalists for this year ’ s Power Players initiative . George Antino ( T Clarke ), Harry Bartle ( Chris Bowker Ltd ), Charlie Harwood ( City Electrical Factors ) and Joseph Wu ( T Clarke ) are all in the running to win the initiative , and will now face the public vote .
Power Players is an initiative aimed at recognising leading figures in the younger generation of the industry . The programme was introduced by the Electrical Contractors ’ Association ( ECA ). in collaboration with a range of industry partners and supporters .
Entrants were able to submit short videos describing something innovative or inspirational that they had achieved . The four finalists were shortlisted earlier this year after an independent judging process .
‘ Many congratulations to the four remaining contenders , who have deservedly been shortlisted for the final by the Power Players judges ,’ commented head judge and ECA head of technical , Steve Martin .
‘ I urge the entire industry to vote for their preferred entry by visiting the Power Players website to watch the four videos and make your selection .’

ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL FIRM SCOOPS AWARD
Swansea-based RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services has been announced as winner of the Best Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Company ( Wales ) award . The award is part of Corporate Vision Magazine ’ s 2017 Business Innovator Awards .
RDM is a UK building services company that works on multi-million pound contracts across the country . The firm has been involved in significant commercial and educational-based projects , such as Swansea University ’ s Bay Campus , as well as projects for key governmental organisations .
