Wieland Electric ’ s Metalynx2 modular wiring system was the preferred choice for all power and lighting distribution throughout the recent refurbishment of 30 Broadwick Street based in Soho , Central London .

HOME IMPROVEMENT

Plymouth Community Homes has begun a programme to replace its smoke alarms with Aico ’ s new 160e Series of alarms . The alarms will be fitted into all 15,000 properties over five years .
Plymouth Community Homes is a long standing Aico customer . It has installed Aico ’ s mains powered smoke and , more recently , carbon monoxide ( CO ) alarms to protect tenants over many years . The existing optical smoke and heat alarms are reaching the end of their lives and will be replaced with Aico ’ s new premium range , the 160e Series .
Building on the success of its 160RC predecessor , 160e alarms provide improved performance in response time and resistance to false alarms ; all in a modern , sleek design , whilst maintaining the same easi-fit footprint making it simple to upgrade .
The 160e Series alarms are compatible with latest technology , RadioLink +. RadioLink + allows for whole system data extraction , which Plymouth Community Homes intends to put to good use . Information such as the number and location of alarms , number of tests carried out and RF signal strength between alarms can all be accessed securely from within or even outside a property . This information will be stored by Plymouth Community Homes on its asset register as part of the tenancy files .

ISLES BE READY

Prysmian ’ s FP200 Gold cable has been installed in new addressable fire alarm systems , protecting several water treatment and desalination plants , located on St Mary ’ s , the largest island of the Isles of Scilly .
The facilities are important for supplying drinking water to the local population of some 1,800 people .
Over 2,200m of 1.5mm 2 FP200 Gold cable was used for the four projects undertaken by Fire Crest Fire Protection , the contractor responsible for the installation on the island . In addition to adhering to the demanding standards of cleanliness and hygiene required for this type of installation , there was also the added logistical step of transporting the cable via sea to the archipelago located 28 miles off the UK mainland .
Fire Crest Fire Protection chose to specify Prysmian because of the critical nature of the water treatment plants . As the fire alarm system shuts down the plant as part of routine for a safety requirement , the cables needed to be robust enough to meet the most demanding of safety standards .

ABLY ASSISTED

LJJ has been awarded the M & E installation for a new assisted living scheme in Oswestry developed by Midlands based housing association Wrekin Housing Trust .
Designed by architect Sutton & Wilkinson , the scheme comprises 53 one and two bedroom apartments along with eight bungalows , with a communal lounge and café facilities and warden support . The development is being delivered by main contractor Willmott Partnership Homes .
The electrical installation will include full low voltage ( LV ) distribution with individual consumer units and meters for each dwelling , lighting in all residential areas and PIR presence detection lighting controls in communal corridors .
A specialist warden call system with portable call button pendants will be integrated with the fire alarm , door entry and access control systems to form a smart network . The installation will enable monitoring of the smoke detectors and fire alarms within each dwelling from the warden ’ s office to ensure nuisance evacuations can be avoided .
The door entry system will be linked to the TV network , enabling residents to view live pictures from the entry system camera on their TV screen via a dedicated channel .
