simply fix it to the wall , connect to the mains power , set and pair the external unit to the monitor by the press of a button and it ’ s ready to go . Once switched on , they will detect an intruder , floodlight the area and wirelessly transmit a highresolution video recording directly to the internal monitor .
Practitioners can opt for a wire-free external area protection system , which will come with a monitor that features a simple user interface . Images are captured by wire-free CCTV cameras built into PIR controlled security lighting units and digitally transmitted to a choice of indoor receivers with an integral SD recording card and comprehensive user controls .
Activity can be continuously viewed and recorded or triggered automatically by on screen movement which can also provide an optional audio alert for occupants if required . Recorded encrypted images can be transferred to a PC or laptop for distribution using the bespoke software provided . The convenient location of the SD card within the receiver also makes for quick and easy access if image transfer is required .
Even where an existing security light might be in place , chances are that it is old , corroded and out of order . Yet , a fully functioning , replacement solution can be installed in no more than 15 minutes and without the need for additional cabling . This is an easy solution for installers to sell to customers .
Where maximum installation flexibility and speed is required , where there is no available mains power , or simply where a more covert external area protection solution is required – such as discrete recording of anti-social behaviour – a battery powered system should be considered . A stand-alone external surveillance system like ESP ’ s CanCam HD provides high resolution capture of still or video camera recordings onto a removable SD card . Images can be continuous or automatically triggered by a built-in PIR with illumination provided by integral black infra-red LEDs . Combined with a robust and fully weatherproof outer casing and powered by integral batteries , this provides a fully portable , stand-alone and instant deployment recording solution for a wide variety of applications , for example sheds , garages and outbuildings . They also provide a solution for the general surveillance of property or livestock and monitoring of anti-social behaviour such as fly-tipping .
‘ For some it may be a case of starting from scratch with the provision of security , for others a case of replacing old and corroded equipment or upgrading to a more sophisticated and reliable system .’
Sophisticated yet simple CCTV
Estimated to be worth in the region of £ 2.4 billion , the UK security market continues to grow , fuelled by the continued development of technology which is driving replacement levels and allowing more sophisticated systems to be brought to market . CCTV accounts for the biggest slice of the security market , and therefore represents a significant opportunity for expansion for installers , who will already possess the necessary skills to operate in this complementary and growing sector .
The development in technology means more sophisticated , yet simple to install CCTV systems are being brought to the market . The retrofit market is a real opportunity . Upgrading a customer ’ s older analogue CCTV system to HD will take just minutes as all the existing cabling can be utilised .
One of the issues with CCTV systems has been poor image quality . Many cameras in privately-owned CCTV systems generate poor images – they ’ ve never been updated and for the police this presents a huge problem as they cannot use the images for evidence to help make convictions .
With the latest technology , however , the challenge of poor image quality can
be overcome . Analogue High Definition ( AHD ) technology is the most newly developed solution for transmitting full 720P and 1080P HD digital video in a CCTV surveillance system . The core concept of AHD is to deliver high definition video using digital TV ( DTV ) transmission . AHD leverages the extremely robust AV transmission capability of DTV to easily and seamlessly upgrade an analogue CCTV surveillance system to digital full HD .
With the focus on smart solutions , wireless CCTV systems are becoming an increasingly popular choice and are a quick and easy solution to updating a customer ’ s security provision . There are a range of wire-free CCTV kits available , offering speed and ease of installation and operation , with remote monitoring possible via a smart phone or tablet , using the relevant app .
When discussing options with customers , it ’ s worth mentioning that the level of security they opt for can impact on their insurance premiums . The higher the level of security a property owner has , the lower they can expect their home insurance premium to be . Better security can help bring down the cost of home insurance premiums , and many insurance providers will give discounts depending on what security measures there are in place .
