TRAINING
UK CONSTRUCTION WEEK
HIGHLIGHTS BIM
This year’s UK Construction Week will be
addressing some of the key issues that
could potentially prevent the industry from
making the most of Building Information
Modelling (BIM).
With BIM evolving at a rapid pace, there
are concerns over the government’s failure
to enforce its mandate relating to the use
of Level 2 BIM on all public sector projects,
with many in the industry still unsure about
what they need to do to comply.
During UK Construction Week, the
BIM Prospects Theatre – hosted by
BRE – will seek to fi nd solutions and
recommendations for training providers
and the wider industry. There will also be
talks on the practical delivery of Level 2,
plus the latest developments relating to
Level 3 BIM.
In addition to the seminars, BRE will
host the BIM Prospects annual awards
ceremony in association with BIM
Hub on Wednesday 11 October on the
main stage from 5pm. The BIM Prospects
Awards will celebrate a range of projects
that have embraced BIM and demonstrated
the advantages of adopting the latest
technologies to design more effi ciently.
These projects, including those certifi ed
by BRE, will be selected by an independent
panel of judges to receive a special award.

UKFAST GROWS APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME
Manchester technolo gy brand UKFast is growing its apprenticeship programme with the launch a fresh recruitment push throughout
exam season.
The number of apprentices at the fi rm has grown year-on-year, now totalling 60. UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones MBE is aiming to
add a further 100 apprentices across his business group in the next year. The scheme offers qualifi cations in IT, software development,
maintenance, customer service, events and facilities management.
After four years, current and former apprentices make up a fi fth of UKFast’s team, with many working on projects delivering and
supporting cutting-edge technology solutions to some of the biggest global brands.
Candidates completing the two-year course have a 100% employment rate within the tech fi rm. Apprentices earn up to £16,000 a
year while gaining qualifi cations and have the opportunity to earn signifi cantly more upon graduation.
UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones commented, “What we’re seeing in our apprenticeships is that the candidates maintain the momentum
they have after leaving school. This gives them a massive opportunity to hit the ground running and to be in a signifi cantly better
fi nancial position than they would have been if they’d gone to university.”
