ECA AWARDS BEST OF THE BEST The recent ECA Gala Dinner and Awards, held at the Celtic Manor resort in South Wales, recognised the outstanding achievements of a number of leading electrical firms. Hundreds of industry leaders enjoyed a night of high quality entertainment and a total of eight awards were handed out after the many entries had been assessed by a panel of independent judges. ECN caught up with some of the deserving winners. WT Parker (above) – Large Contractor of the Year – Sean Smyth, group managing director: ‘I am delighted with the award and for the recognition from industry experts that WT Parker Group Services is the fantastic company that myself and its employees know it to be. It makes me immensely proud to know that the company has been recognised as being the best of the best. The judges recognised our passion for staff development, the importance of health and safety and innovation amongst other criteria, but most of all, our belief in the WT Parker name and everything it stands for.’   Quartzelec (right) – Excellence in Training and Development – Martin Broughton, general manager: ‘Training is directly proportional to profit and is a key factor in the huge growth we have seen here at the Manchester office in the last four years. Winning the prestigious Training and Development category is incredible recognition for all our people who are furthering their education not only for their own benefit, but for the benefit of Quartzelec as a whole.’   Amalgamated (left) – Contractor of the Year: Up to £5m Turnover – Ian Teader, managing director: ‘We are delighted to have won the ‘ECA Contractor of the Year Award’, in the category up to £5m turnover, for our achievements by the UK’s Leading Trade Association. Successful growth strategies were significant in our application including extensive professional accreditations, customer care, employee development, acquisitions and new business development. This award places Amalgamated in the forefront of the industry as one of the leading independent fire and security companies in the UK.’   Haydon M&E (above) – Contractor of the Year: Up to £20m Turnover – Darren Lambert, electrical operations manager: ‘Winning the ECA Contractor of the year title is a great accolade of which we at Haydon M&E are extremely proud of. Being recognised by our peers within the industry and awarded for exemplary quality in the market place is an incredible achievement to share with our existing and potential clients. Thank you to the ECA for an amazing platform and thank you to the amazing team at Haydon M&E, You made this happen!’   Power Electrics (below) – Contractor of the Year: Up to £1m Turnover – Leigh Griffiths, marketing manager: ‘During Power Electrics 53 year history we have been proud of the various electrical contracting projects we have worked upon around the UK. To gain recognition from the leading association within our industry is a great achievement and one we are all very honoured of.
