CABLE MANAGEMENT FEATURE ON THE FRONT FOOT The UK’s cable management sector is highly competitive, with a number of key players vying to maintain a competitive edge and market share. It is against this backdrop that product and service innovation is vital to stay ahead of the game. Here, Jeremy Dodge reveals what Marshall-Tufflex is doing to ensure its customers have the most modern systems at their fingertips. P roduct innovation is as important to Marshall-Tufflex now as it was when we first began manufacturing PVC-U systems more than 70 years ago. However, what started out as producing quite simple trunking for power distribution has transformed into innovating cable management solutions capable of handling increasing levels of power and sophisticated data cabling. The changing installation demands driven by advances in data cabling and higher user expectations have had a huge impact on how we’ve viewed product development in recent years, with both functionality and compliance of major importance. There’s been a steady shift from power, voice and basic data cables going into three compartment trunking to just power and higher performing data cabling going into two and three compartment systems; the distribution of data cables (and the cables themselves) has altered There is demand for trunking to do more than just carry cables. dramatically, with greater speeds and greater call for inbuilt screening. The Marshall-Tufflex research and development team at our manufacturing base in Hastings, East Sussex, has worked closely with the industry to innovate solutions to meet these shifting demands. Cable management now comes in a wide array of styles, sizes, colours, materials and finishes. Larger capacity trunking has been developed to handle the more advanced data cabling requirements, with many installations making use of solutions with a 50/50 power/data split in twin compartments.
