Week, much
has been written
about the
opportunities that
apprenticeships can
offer to young people and, while most
of it is undoubtedly true, very little of the
focus falls upon adult trainees and the
opportunities offered to older workers
looking to break into the industry.
We all know that there is a skills
shortage in the industry and that there
is no short term fix. Apprenticeships are
riding high at the moment and both the
number of places on offer and the number
of individuals applying is on the up. While
this is encouraging, unfortunately the
figures still don’t add up and the reality is
that we need to attract new blood to the
industry at a faster rate if we are to make
up the shortfall any time soon.
