STORE OF THE FUTURE
Throughout 2016 Luceco worked in parallel with Maplin Electronics to realise its lighting refurbishment project , playing a key role with the design and supply of LED energy saving luminaires to the group . Converting much of its store estate , the project included the need for better lighting within its stores and lower energy costs . With the roll out now complete , the finance team at Maplin reported an increase in the original energy consumption savings above predicted levels .
Luceco is now proud to have recently supplied luminaries for another significant project – Store of the Future . The Luceco lighting design team was tasked with designing an LED lighting solution using the proven recessed and highly efficient Luceco LED panels . The design also called for lighting solutions to suit various areas in the store including consultation and gaming rooms , home entertainment , play , smart life and home office .
The key products used were 1200x600mm high output backlit panels for the high lighting levels required and platinum downlights with brushed steel bezels in the consultation and gaming rooms . Back of house lighting was achieved using IP65 climate luminaires in the storage areas , Atlas bulkheads in WCs , and LuxPanels in offices , providing a complete retail lighting solutions package .

DOWN TO A FINE ART
Marshall-Tufflex ’ s Supertube is at the heart of an iconic London development being hailed as Britain ’ s most important new cultural building for almost 20 years .
Tate Modern ’ s new extension , the £ 260m Switch House , required a highly creative approach to the installation of electrical services in a concrete core that rises through the centre of the 10-storey building , designed by internationally renowned architect Herzog & de Meuron .
London based contractor REL Building Services ruled out the use of traditional galvanised conduit as too costly and unworkable , opting instead for Marshall-Tufflex ’ s MT Supertube , supplied by Medlock Electrical Distributors .
The cable management – carrying power , lighting , data , fire alarms , security , access control and CCTV services – was encased within the building ’ s concrete core and delivered the architectural vision for flush mounted electrical accessories without the use of voids for cable concealment in floors , walls or ceilings .
MT Supertube is a strong , robust , lightweight three-layer tube-style conduit , with the strength of steel but pliable by hand . The system was fabricated on deck at site and laced through the steel rebar network . Cable ties secured it to the rebar . Insulation tape was applied to each conduit connection over a 50mm width each side to ensure moisture resistance .

GONE SWIMMING
REL has been awarded a contract to deliver the electrical works at a £ 25m leisure development .
Located in Romford , the scheme is being built by Willmott Dixon for Havering Council . It includes an eightlane competition swimming pool , training pool , fitness suite , 56m x 26m ice rink and associated leisure facilities within the heart of the town centre .
Appointed by Kershaw Mechanical Services , REL is responsible for the £ 2m electrical element of the project , which is scheduled to take 12 months .
REL ’ s managing director , Toby Buckley said , ‘ The electrical design is complex so we ’ ve been working closely with Wilmott Dixon ’ s design team to develop and coordinate the design .
‘ Leisure sector projects can be challenging because of the specialist fittings and fixtures required for the swimming pool areas but this job has additional complexities . For example , we need to install lighting rigs as well as electrical infrastructure above the ice rink , which is located two levels above the swimming pool .
‘ We have also had to carefully programme our schedule to ensure timed deliveries as the leisure development is located in a densely populated shopping area .’
The Romford Leisure Development adds to a growing number of leisure projects for REL . Within the last 12 months , the team has also helped to deliver leisure complexes in Waltham Forest in London , High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire and Flitwick in Bedfordshire .
