TRAINING

ECS recognises CNet Training ’ s Education Framework
The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme ( ECS ) is recognising programmes from CNet Training ’ s Network Infrastructure Education Framework and creating specialist datacomms cards for those who hold certifications from the framework .
It is compulsory on almost all UK construction sites that workers hold a valid ECS or CSCS card . ECS is the electrotechnical affiliate of CSCS and is now solely responsible for issuing cards to the datacomms industry . All those who currently hold a Datacomms CSCS card will be required to transfer over to an ECS Datacomms card on their next renewal .
Now , those who successfully complete the Certified Network Cable Installer ( CNCI ), the Certified Network Infrastructure Technician ( CNIT ), the Certified Telecommunications Project Management ( CTPM ) or the Certified Network Infrastructure Design Professional ( CNIDP ) programmes are eligible to apply for the relevant ECS Datacomms card .
The Global Network Infrastructure Education Framework , originated by CNet Training , offers industry professionals an opportunity to map education programmes to meet individual and organisation requirements . It provides designations that have become key skill reference points that allow those holding the certifications and qualifications to clearly demonstrate their ability and experience .
David Thomas , ECS strategic development manager for the Joint Industry Board , commented , ‘ We ’ re pleased to be working with CNet to recognise its training within the ECS – it presents a fantastic opportunity for datacomms engineers to demonstrate their qualifications and professionalism in the workplace .’

You don ’ t have to win to be a winner – Scolmore ’ s advice to apprentices
With the search now on to find the second NICEIC and ELECSA Electrical Apprentice of the Year ( 2017 ), Marie Parry , marketing director of Scolmore Group , caught up with one of this year ’ s finalists , Michael Woolley , who has since successfully secured a job with Orton Group .
Michael said , ‘ I think the biggest thing that the competition did for me was to boost my confidence and open my eyes to the opportunities out there .’
He added , ‘ I can honestly say that if I hadn ’ t entered the competition , I wouldn ’ t be here today . I would definitely urge any Level 3 apprentices out there , who may not think they are up to it , to get their applications in .’
There is still time for apprentices to enter . The competition is open to all Level 3 students and will seek to test the skills and knowledge of those candidates who put themselves forward .
The brightest talents will be rewarded with various prizes – including holiday vouchers worth £ 2,000 for the winner , £ 750 for the runner up and £ 250 for third place , as well as a range of Scolmore products .
The grand final will take place at Scolmore Group ’ s head offices in Tamworth , Staffordshire , on Tuesday , 6th June .
