Fit gets lit
Kosnic Lighting is helping an outdoor boot camp class in Northamptonshire to continue with its fitness programme throughout the dark winter months thanks to the use of its rechargeable LED Work Lights .
Fitness trainer Darren Biggs started the weekly exercise class in the recreational ground of Northamptonshire village Stoke Bruerne back in the summer . However , as autumn approached and the nights began to draw in , the 7pm outdoor class started to be disrupted by the lack of light .
‘ Early evening is a really popular time to work out , but the dark nights and the uneven ground meant that some of the exercises became difficult to execute and there was a risk of injury with the reduced visibility ,’ said Darren Biggs , director of DB Fitness .
Kosnic learned of the issues the group was facing and decided to sponsor the boot camp class , providing two of its rechargeable LED Work Lights so they could continue to train throughout the winter .
‘ The lights have been a real gamechanger for us ,’ added Biggs . ‘ The distribution of light has made sure that everyone can see what they ’ re doing to work out safely – the visibility is fantastic . They are easy to set up and use , recharge quickly and the power lasts for several sessions without needing a recharge . Dark , wet or both , we know we can continue our boot camp sessions thanks to the help of Kosnic .’

Room for manoeuvre
Over the last two years the University of Liverpool has run an ambitious £ 14m project to upgrade and refurbish three of its venues . The largest of these is Mountford Hall , Liverpool ’ s second largest concert space . Adlib Audio was responsible for the install , installing an L-Acoustics line array to combat various challenges .
A significant part of the upgrade budget for Mountford Hall has been invested in a permanent PA and lighting installation , minimising the potential delays and increased costs that can arise when performers use their own equipment .
The new L-Acoustics sound system comprises amplifiers , cabling and suspended ( or flying ) speakers . Flexibility is required within the fixed installation , to allow for the different audio projection needs of visiting performers . This can be provided by raising and lowering four independent main PA Loudspeaker speaker arrays to achieve the best sound balance for differing performances , a task usually carried out manually , which was not only costly , but timeconsuming and sometimes dangerous .
Adlib Audio , the sound and lighting designer , supplier and installer for the entire upgrade project , turned to igus for an alternative . For the speakers , this was delivered in the form of four custom igus e-chain and e-spool cable management systems , one for each of the four main speaker arrays . These provided no-break connections between the amplifiers and the speakers , eliminating reliability and signal quality issues .
The previously problematic speaker manoeuvring is now a simple , automated procedure that can be conducted at will prior to rehearsals and sound checks . The delays , costs and health and safety issues associated with calling on extra crew and working at height for manoeuvring are now a thing of the past .
