LIGHTING SPECIAL FEATURE ILLUMINATING INNOVATION Energy savings are a constant driver in the lighting industry, but as Claire Fletcher reveals, the spotlight is also on fl exibility, with an emphasis on modular installation and customisable design. Lighter work of light work The Abstract features arms illuminated with LED ribbons, which act as independent lightbulbs. Eaton’s Litex Elite is ideal for warehouse and industrial buildings thanks to IP65 water and dust ingress protection. A dvanced simplicity and design fl exibility are the promised advantages of tp24’s recently launched G30 Abstract range of linear LED light fi ttings. Not only does this system based lighting solution offer a plug and play approach to linear LED, it also offers a simple method for customisation. The Abstract design features arms illuminated with LED ribbons, which act as independent lightbulbs run on 240V mains voltage. Arms can feature differing wattages, between fi ve and 18W, depending on the effective arm length. These arms or ‘linear lightbulbs’ are connected to a series of different fi xtures and wall plates via a two-pin system, referred to as G30, which is a simple plug and play solution for linear LED. For optimum consumer customisation, each LED arm has a built-in driver and integrated circuit dimming, enabling the user to easily control the light levels of the fi tting. In addition to dimming the arms, the fi ttings’ look can be altered simply by changing the orientation of the arm, removing the arm, or swapping it for an alternative arm design. ‘Our new Abstract linear LED lighting range has been innovatively designed to fulfi l the demands of a 21st century lifestyle – we feel that it takes lighting to a whole new dimension,’ commented Shaun Davis, managing director of tp24. Maxilux is another manufacturer focused on providing easy to fi t solutions, with its latest under cabinet technology, Linelite Vario, which is currently in the electrical wholesale and DIY limelight. Linelite Vario is targeted at wholesalers who want to be able to offer fast, easy to fi t solutions with minimum fuss as part of the company’s ‘making lighter work of light work’ pledge. The principle behind Linelite Vario is to offer a customisable linear light to fi t under cabinets, but instead of asking wholesalers to stock a range of sizes, Maxilux will supply a complete kit with all the components to easily assemble to any size, up to 1.75m in length. Each kit comprises a low-profi le aluminium housing with diffuser, end caps, mounting clips, a 120 LED/m strip, power supply as well as solder free connectors and cable. Richard Cockayne, managing director of Maxilux, said, ‘This removes all of the hard work and fuss. Customers simply cut the aluminium and LED strip to the required length and assemble the light and, in a few minutes, it’s completely ready to fi t to the correct size.’ LineLite Vario is targeted at wholesalers who want to be able to offer fast, easy to fi t solutions with minimum fuss. make a difference, such as the sealed and washable IP65/IK10 housing, and high quality LED chips and drivers. ‘Buyers will be reassured by the fact that, like all of our lighting products, the Litex Elite has been fully tested and, as a member of the Lighting Industry Association, Eaton complies fully with the LIA’s validation programme.’ Automatic control Outstanding effi ciency Eaton has unveiled an IP65 high bay luminaire with a level of energy effi ciency designed to enable a full return on investment within 18 months. The easy to install Litex Elite, which delivers up to 170 luminaire lumens per circuit watt (Llm/ cW), is ideally suited to warehouse and industrial buildings thanks to IP65 water and dust ingress protection, long lifespan and resistance to extreme temperatures. The power management company estimates that a commercial building containing 100 HID metal halide luminaires could reduce its annual lighting costs from £47,330 to £12,450 by replacing them with Litex Elite units. Ian Roberts, product manager for mains lighting at Eaton, said, ‘As an IP65 rated high bay luminaire with such outstanding effi ciency and performance credentials, the Litex Elite represents a signifi cant leap forward. During the design process, huge attention has been given to the details that Danlers’ EasyZAPP occupancy switches can be remotely set up or adjusted using a smart phone or tablet. Staying with the energy effi ciency theme, Danlers has augmented its range of stand-alone energy saving controls with the EasyZapp family of PIR occupancy switches. Designed for the automatic control of lighting or other connected loads, these products are remotely set-up or adjusted using a free app on an Android phone or tablet. August 2017 | 37
