BUTE-IFUL JOB
Reggiani UK has supplied a variety of light fittings that include the offbeat Splyt and Envios luminaires for the refurbishment of Bute Mills , the new home for Luton based charity Youthscape .
Previously a steam flourmill , the 100 year old building is one of the most iconic in the centre of the Bedfordshire town . It was purchased by the charity in 2013 and has since gone through a complete transformation . All five floors , totalling 10,000ft 2 , have now been fully refurbished with the result being a stunning creation of fashionable architectural space that is also sympathetic to the original structure of the building .
Leading architect HOK was responsible for the overall project design scheme and worked closely with lighting designer Xavier Fulbright of Lumineer Studio and Stuart Gaunt , head of technical specification at Reggiani UK .
Reggiani ’ s surface mounted Splyt incorporating high performance optics was specified for good ambient lighting in most central spaces at Bute Mills . The Splyt luminaire is extremely versatile and includes semi-recessed , track , surface and wall mounting options to suit virtually any application . Available in 120mm and 150mm sizes , both were utilised on the Bute Mills project with 17W and 31W LED lamps respectively .
SPORTS PROGRAMME
The University of Bristol appointed Dextra Lighting and AMP Electrical to brighten up and future proof its sports centre facilities . The LED upgrade has allowed the prestigious university to balance energy efficiency with superior light quality , whilst keeping installation and maintenance costs to a minimum .
Earning a place as one of the top 40 institutions in QS World University rankings doesn ’ t come cheap . In order to maintain , and improve on , the outstanding quality and efficiency of its educational facilities , the University of Bristol has launched a £ 525m capital investment programme to be delivered incrementally over the next 10 years .
Dextra Lighting teamed up with AMP Electrical – the Bristol University approved installer – which undertook the work to an exacting standard , reprogramming the DALI system for maximum economic effect .
A total of 116 MODLED Curve luminaires were installed as main lighting for the dance and aerobics studios and two gym rooms featuring weights , resistance machines and treadmills . The versatile recessed luminaire was supplied in a 4,500Lm output , in 600x600mm body size to provide a direct replacement for the existing fittings and boost lux levels in all areas .
FIT FOR PURPOSE
A gym in Rickmansworth is making considerable energy savings thanks to new LEDs from Luceco .
William Penn Leisure has a newly refurbished gym with over 60 stations , fitness studios , swimming pool , sauna and steam room , sports hall and an all-weather pitch .
After new state-of-the-art fitness equipment had been installed at William Penn Leisure Centre , the air-conditioned gym had also benefited from a
makeover , including a lighting refurbishment in the studios and surrounding corridors . LED LuxPanel luminaires from Luceco have been installed ensuring a well lit environment to work out in . With 50,000 hours of maintenance free life and significant energy savings over traditional light sources , the LuxPanel is supplied with remote ‘ plug and play ’ drivers and is quick and easy to install and produces consistent light output over its entire life , with 100 per cent instant light with no warm up time as required by fluorescent lamp luminaires .

Wootton Upper School & Arts College has been equipped with highly efficient LED lighting supplied and installed by Energys Group .

Now , thanks to a comprehensive upgrade featuring Energys ’ s New Vision LED lights , it has a first rate lighting infrastructure to match .
The desire to achieve improved levels of brightness and an overall reduction in energy expenditure were among the priorities for the overhaul . The high expectations for the project saw the school engage Cube Building Consultancy , which provides a full range of building surveying services for commercial , education and residential property occupiers and owners . Cube was tasked with delivering ‘ best value and maximum outcomes ’ for the school throughout the project .
A popular choice for school and corporate applications , among others , the New Vision product range of LED lamps includes new LED fittings , LED retrofit lamps , wall lights , downlights and a full suite of external LED lighting , all of them specified for very low energy consumption in order to deliver the maximum savings to the client .
AT YOUR LEISURE
Ventola Projects has completed a project in Kent where it has been working with the well known My Time Leisure Centre , a centre that provides a swimming pool , soft play centre , café , bowling alley , crèche and gym .
The Ventola team installed the latest LED lighting product and system that Ventola has recently added to its ever growing offerings .
The management at this Kent facility were very impressed with the end result and how Ventola managed to accommodate a multiple of different applications to ensure the new LED product not only met a price range but also accommodated the effect they required with increased energy cost savings and long term maintenance savings .
The completion of the project followed the recent launch of Ventola Projects ’ latest product . The VAvR CS3 / 1 LED light uses its own central operating system for ease of use and controllability throughout any facility or application .
The CS3 / 1 LED unit allows irregular shaped lighting patterns which helps to mould into a very narrow , almost oval shaped light that fits into tight places ensuring there is little overspill of light where it ’ s not necessary , such as the bowling lanes at the My Time Leisure Centre .
MODERN MOTORING
Dorset car dealership Motorwell Mitsubishi Bridport has received a revitalised look and feel courtesy of a new LED lighting scheme by Kosnic Lighting .
The LED technology company was appointed to design a lighting scheme that would better showcase the vehicles on sale , while also providing the cost saving benefits of LED products .
In any sales environment , lighting is important but even more so in a car dealership when working with high value purchases that are reflective and often sold on their perceived image as well as performance . Previously using fluorescent and metal halide fittings , Kosnic specified slim profile 9mm LED LUMI 40W 6500K twin bar panels for the showroom , which were supplied by AJ Electrical Distributors in Bridport and installed by Jason White Electrical Services .
Kosnic ’ s lighting scheme and products have lowered Motorwell Mitsubishi Bridport ’ s energy consumption by more than 75 per cent , reducing it from 5.5kWh to 1.25kWh . The light output has quadrupled to better illuminate the sales floor and highlight the vehicles . Based on a 10 hour day , the project has an 18 month payback period , with replacement lamp and maintenance costs also reduced .
