911 Chili Cook-Off
This year STAR volunteers were asked
to participate in the Battle of the Badges
fundraiser at the El Dorado County
Fairgrounds. The 911 Chili Cook-off
event raises money for New Morning
Youth & Family Services. STAR
volunteers took great pride in their
“Thin Blue Line” display to honor the
heroes behind the badge. The display
included a list of all California law
enforcement officers who lost their
lives in the line of duty during 2018.
Night and day, these law enforcement
officers showed their bravery and did all
they could to protect our communities
and be the light in the darkness. STARS
were very proud to give honor to these
great men and women who serve the
public unconditionally.

Two events the STAR volunteers enjoy and are honored to partake in each year is the No Vet
Goes Hungry food bank home deliveries and Holiday Gift Baskets for YANA clients. The No
Vet Goes Hungry delivery is a way for STARs to thank some El Dorado County veterans for their service and ensure these veteran families have
all they need for a nice holiday meal. In 2018
STARs were able to deliver over 50 meals to veterans in our area supplied by the El Dorado
County Food Bank. The other event is the YANA basket delivery. These baskets are made by retired teachers from the Retired Teachers Association for STAR volunteers to deliver to elderly YANA clients whom are homebound. These baskets are a very special treat for the YANA clients and are filled with helpul personal items and nutritious food and snacks. In 2018 STARs were able to deliver these gift baskets to over 50 elderly clients in El Dorado County.
