Riverside Explorer Competition

On October 7th and 8th, eight selected members

of the Explorer POST represented the El Dorado

County Sheriff’s Office in the 3rd Annual

Riverside Police Department Explorer

Competition hosted by the Riverside Police

Department Explorer POST 714. The eight

member Explorer team included Captain Grace

Hunter, Lieutenant Sam Jackowitz, Sergeant Josh

Jackowitz, Sergeant Steven Ross, Corporal Joe

Herrington, Corporal Laura Russell, Field

Training Officer Stefanie Davidson, and Deputy

Taylor Turnboo.

In preparation for the competition, Explorers

received regular training in a variety of tactical

and leadership topics from expert members of

the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. After

rigorous training and preparation, the Explorer

team and their Sheriff’s Office Advisors traveled to Riverside, California where they joined 24

other regional Explorer teams to compete and

test their skills.

Each team demonstrated their skills and were

evaluated on reality based scenarios including

active shooter, pedestrian and traffic stops,

officer down, crisis negotiations, domestic

violence, crime scene investigations, airsoft

shooting competition, oral panel and

scholarship interviews, report writing and

obstacle courses.

The Explorers and Explorer Advisors worked very

hard with the support and assistance of Sheriff's

Office personnel to prepare for the Riverside

Police Department Competition. The hard work,

determination, and exceptional teamwork

displayed reflected positively on the entire

Sheriff's Office

During the event, POST 457 represented our agency well and brought home 4 trophies to include:

In 2017, seven graduated explorers were hired on as full time positions with the Sheriff’s Office.
