California Highway Patrol Explorer Academy

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post sent 12 explorers to the CHP Explorer Level III Academy. This academy is designed for Explorers, ages 16 to 21, who have an interest in exploring Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement career opportunities.

The Explorer Academy is an abbreviated replica of the actual CHP Academy, and is designed to familiarize explorers with course curriculum, academic standards, law enforcement, professionalism, esprit de corps and teamwork.

This intense seven day, live-in, training course located at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento is very demanding on the physical and mental capabilities of the explorer. The program is designed to test the strengths and limitations of a person's intelligence, personality, demeanor and physical abilities, as well as dedication and conviction to the Explorer Program.

This Academy is challenging, exciting, fulfilling and one that the explorers take pride in upon successful completion

The Explorer POST has brought young men and women together to become an example for other law enforcement agencies to emulate. The goal for the members of the Explorer POST is to have hands on training from a multitude of different agencies to include DEA, DOJ, CHP and other State and local agencies to expand their abilities. With the large expansion of the Explorer POST, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has become the premier Explorer program for the area, providing leadership and confidence that is building the future of law enforcement. These young men and women are holding positions in the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, successfully becoming members at other law enforcement agencies, moving onto College, or the Military. With the continued growth of the program there is no end to the development of these individuals.
