For Refugees & Asylum-seekers from Sub-Saharan Africa, Iraq & Yemen NEEDS, VULNERABILITIES AND TARGETING In Egypt, the majority of the refugee and asylum-seeker populations live in urban or semi-urban areas. They face various challenges including limited opportunities to meet their basic needs, as well as language barriers. Refugees and asylum-seekers in Egypt have access to six- month residency on their refugee or asylum-seeker cards. However, the procedures to access and obtain residency is lengthy and costly for those who have to travel to Cairo from remote areas. Specific groups among the refugees and asylum-seekers may face greater economic and protection challenges, particularly unaccompanied and separated children (UASC), female-headed households, elderly and people living with disabilities. them increasingly vulnerable to becoming exposed to protection risks. All refugees and asylum-seekers in Egypt have access to public health care services. However, challenges remain in terms of language, referrals, and costly secondary and tertiary health care. There are also specific challenges for people living with disabilities or special needs. The targeting of the humanitarian response varies between sectors.
