Dear Friends,
Welcome to the
EFSC Foundation
Matters newsletter.
S
unny skies, mouthwatering BBQ, bluegrass music and more were
all on the menu at the EFSC Alumni Association’s first Backyard
BBQ Cook-off and Family Fest. The event, which benefited the
Foundation and Athletic Booster Club, was held Saturday, March 11,
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All in attendance were treated to some of the
tastiest BBQ in the area with 16 amateur teams competing for cash
and bragging rights.
The teams set up camp the evening before and tended their grills
throughout the moonlit night in hopes of being named Grand
Champion. The BBQ was evaluated in a blind assessment by esteemed
judges, including Dr. Larry Bishop, Dr. Sandy Handfield, Kim Agee,
Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Dr. Joe Lee Smith and EFSC’s own Chef Durham.
When the Judges took to the stage, the excitement from the crowd
was tangible. Vice President Rich Laird had the honor of announcing
the winners. Beachin’ BBQ took 1st Place for Chicken, Big D’s Dirty
South BBQ took home 1st Place for Pork, the People’s Choice Award
went to the Blowin’ Smoke & Kickin’ Ash Team and the Grand
Champion award was presented to the Undercover Chefs.
Plans are already underway for next year’s Backyard BBQ. Contact

The Foundation’s
vision is to
maximize our
donor resources, to build futures,
transform lives and promote
academic excellence. Our ultimate
goal is to financially support our
students with scholarships to help
them successfully complete their
education. By reconnecting and
engaging our Alumni and friends, we
can increase funding and help more
students than ever before!
There are so many exciting things
happening at the Foundation that
we’d like to share with our friends.
Our hope is that this newsletter will
