EQUINOX: A
THRILLING ROMANCE
ANANYA DHAWAN
The cover page is a scary but an appealing prelude to the gripping
read that Equinox is. It portrays a scary female face which, to me,
seems like a reflection of the innate scare quotient that a quintessential woman has within her and which she camouflages with all
that she can. It is an enticing image portraying love, lust and pain.
Equinox, in a manner more appealing that one can say, takes us
through April’s fascinating journey, the way that takes her to discover herself and the tangles of life that she gets caught in. The story
is set in the UK. April, who comes to live in a new place called the
Rupert House, yearns to see the boy she had once seen on her fifteenth birthday and who had then tugged at the strings of her heart.
The readers are introduced to the stinking rich and gorgeously
irresistible Richard Chase who April falls deeply in love with. He
reciprocates her feelings but seems to be confused at the same time,
until one day he dumps her and she realises that she has reached
a point where she can no longer live without him…she needs to
feel his presence to survive. The play on emotions here is amazing
and vivid. Ironically, it is she who he needs to survive, and it is he
who is emotionally killing her. The concept of chocolate as used
in the story is also quite interesting.

This fantastical romance has a romantic angle quite distinct from
others of the same genre. The story might seem to be a little slow
in the beginning but gradually becomes thrilling. Other characters like April’s friends and the sisters at the convent have little
part to play.
