August 6th - August 10th 2014 Krakow, Poland Text: IEEE Photographs: IEEE IEEE – Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – is the world’s largest professional association, with more than 430000 members worldwide, of whom 12000 are students. Divided into regions, IEEE Region 8 – Europe, Middle - East, and Africa – comprises nearly 80000 members of whom 23000 are students. IEEE Region 8 students belong to 450 student branches. They organize and actively participate in events and congresses all around the region. The Students and Young Professionals Congress – SYP 2014, previously SB and GOLD Congress (Student Branches and Graduates of the Last Decade Congress) welcomes speakers from various fields, both technical and non-technical. The program also includes cultural visits and other activities. Details may be found on www.sypkrakow.pl. Although it is responsible for 30% of the world’s publications, and more than a thousand standards currently in use such as Wi-Fi (IEEE standard 802.11), IEEE is not only dedicated to “advancing technology for humanity”... It is also dedicated to serving its members and developing them in any possible aspect, and bringing them wonderful opportunities! This August, the biggest Student event in Region 8 will take place August 6th till 10th, 2014 in the beautiful Polish city Krakow. The congress will not only bring on an interesting opportunity for speakers and guests to exchange experiences, expand their networks, meet with the group of young professionals and future engineers, but will also allow participants to discover the beauty of Krakow and enjoy the hospitality of the Polish people. The SYP Congress 2014 is not the only student event in IEEE. Other local congresses take place in every part of Region 8, where technical, non-technical, and IEEE-related workshops are carried. In fact, IEEE offers numerous programs and contests that benefit students, professionals, and the community. They include, but are not limited to: - IEEE Academic (academic.ieee.org) is an online multilingual educational resource where students and professors create free online educational material. - EPICS in IEEE – or Engineering Programs in Community Service – engages university and high-school students to work on engineering-related projects for local humanitarian organizations. - IEEE Xplore (ieeexplore.ieee.org) is an online library where millions of engineering-related publications can be found. - IEEE Spectrum (spectrum.ieee.org) magazine covers the latest technology, engineering, and science news. - IEEE Xtreme (ieee.org/xtreme) is a 24-hour worldwide programming competition in which teams of student members compete against each other. - IEEE MadC (ieeemadc.org) or Mobile Applications Development Contest challenges students and student teams to compete against each other in developing mobile applications.
