Engineering eMission Impossible LC Ankara February 16th - February 23rd 2014 Ankara, Turkey Text: Haldun Suphi Seyhun, LC Ankara Photographs: LC Ankara Automotive! How can anyone say no to it? Maybe for transportation or construction... There are plenty of topics that show the need to this industry. But what will happen when we finish all of our natural sources? How we can provide new sources? What is going to happen if we keep polluting the environment the way we do now? Yes, some people have already thought about these problems and solutions. As EESTEC LC Ankara, we wanted to share the expertise and show you the future. As a result of it, we organized an event called eMission Impossible. Our purpose behind organizing this event was showing what can be environmental solutions, and what we Turkey are doing about that. Opening ceremony that took place at Middle East Technical University, one of the best universities in Turkey, started with the introduction presentation by Promotion Office of METU. Following this, Dr. Özlem Çivi Aydın made a speech emphasizing the meaning and the importance of eMission Impossible and the achievements of Department of Electric-Electronics Engineering in METU. We did not want them to feel in trouble in their first day, that is why we tried to keep short first day’s academic part. We knew that they would need more energy in the upcoming days! In the next days of eMI, a presentation about the position of Turkey in the world regarding automotive and how government encourages companies to improve their technologies in the direction of protecting environment was given by a academician from the Ministry of Industry. Afterwards, Asst. Emre Yengel from Hacettepe University gave his presentation about Reduction of Emission and Engine Enhancements. Since Mr. Yengel is a young instructor, the communication between him and all of participants was worth seeing. Now, it is the turn of HU-GO! This was one of the best moments for all of us, and you will understand why. Imagine that a car spends just 3 Euros to cover 200 km ground! Presentation of HUGO was given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Engin Tanık, one of the inventors of HU-GO! Lastly, METU Robots Society gave information about their solar-power and hydrogen vehicles. We learnt the steps to produce these vehicles and how they find sponsorship for international projects and competitions. In addition, our trainers provided training for Team 36
